Paradise Philippines - Chocolate Hills is an unusual geological formation in Bohol, Philippines. It is composed of around 1,268 perfectly cone-shaped hills of about the same size, spread over an area of more than 50 kilometers. They are covered in green grass that turns brown during the dry season, hence the name. The Chocolate Hills is a famous tourist attraction of Bohol. It is featured in the provincial flag and seal to symbolize the abundance of natural attraction in the province.

It is also in the Philippine Tourism Authority’s list of tourist destinations in the paradise philippines. Sometimes consider “Eighth Wonder of the World”, it has been declared the country’s 3rd National Geological Monument. The Chocolate Hills is a rolling terrain of haycock hills — mounds of general shape which are conical and almost symmetrical. Estimated to be at least 1,268 individual mounds to about 1,776, these cone-shaped or dome-shaped hills are actually grass-covered limestone hills. The large and numerous perfect domes vary in sizes from 30 meters to 50 meters high with the largest being 120 meters in height. Aesthetically extensive, they are scattered throughout the towns of Carmen, Batuan and Sagbayan. Bohol’s “main attraction”, these unique mound-shaped hills are scattered by the thousands on the island’s central plain, concentrated near the town of Carmen.

At dawn or at sunset, the Chocolate Hills are an alluring sight; the whole area picturesque amidst the rice fields and the clusters of houses made of the diamond patterned sawali or bamboo slats.
During the dry season, the precipitation is inadequate such that the grass-covered hills dry up and turn chocolate brown. This transforms the area into seemingly endless rows of “chocolate kisses”. The branded confection is the inspiration behind the name, Chocolate Hills.

Paradise Philippines - The iligan city has its beginnings in the village of Bayug, 2.5 kilometers north of the present Poblacion. It was the earliest pre-Spanish settlement of native sea dwellers, known as Maragats. In the later part of the 16th century, they were subdued by the Visayan migrants from the island kingdom of Panglao. These migrants, led by Pedro Manuel Manook established Bayug as the earliest Christian settlement in the area sometime between 1597 and 1609.

Population growth and safety eventually forced the settlers to move to safer and better forts. One was built in 1632 and another in 1872. Both became the sites of the present Poblacion. From being merely a small district in the Department of Mindanao and Sulu, Paradise Philippines Islands in 1903, it grew into a municipality in the ten unified province of Lanao. On June 16, 1950, it became a chartered city by virtue of Republic Act 525 signed into by the late President Elpidio Quirino.

The utilization of the Maria Cristina Falls into a hydroelectric power generating plant in 1952, hastened the urbanization of the city. Industries were established and more people came to settle. The city marked its first one hundred thousand population in 1970, when it posted a population of 104,493. Twenty-five years later, in 1995, a total population of 203,004 was recorded. Simultaneous with its population growth, is the increase in the city’s revenue. In 1983, it was reclassified as a highly urbanized city due to its impressive collection performance.

These major developments in the city were made possible by able and hardworking leaders since its creation in 1898. Its first president under the Aguinaldo Revolutionary Government was Carlito Jariol who served from 1898 to 1900. Its first Municipal Mayor was Jorge Ramiro (1936-1940), while its first City Mayor was Benito Ong (1948-1953). Its longest serving mayor was Camilo P. Cabili, who served Iligan from 1960 to 1984 and from 1988 to 1992 while the shortest service was rendered by Esperidion Sagrado, who was appointed city mayor for the period July 15-17, 1992. Table 1.1.1 shows the List of Mayors of Iligan City since its creation.

For the past decade, the paradise philippines city has been the more important activity center in North Central Mindanao. It is the center of major industries, commercial and educational establishments. It was dubbed as the “Industrial Center of the South.” Recently, it has become a major tourist destination. Since its birth in the 16th century, it has remained a Visayan dominated area in this part of the country. It has, however, retained its role as a friendly neighbor to the cultural communities in its vicinities. It is identified as a growth pole in Mindanao.

Surigao City is a mosaic of islands that lies at the rim of the Asian continental shelf. It is perched at the northeastern tip of Mindanao, a southern island in the Philippines, and faces the Philippine Deep. The historic strait bound it on the north and east by the Pacific Ocean, on the south by the provinces of Agusan Del Norte and Surigao Del Sur and on the West. It is blessed with abundant mineral reserves, fisheries and aquatic resources, and tracts of fertile arable lands, which are the primary sources of its people’s livelihood. Its location in the coast offered enough opportunities to enjoy its wide array of beaches ranging from white, grayish-sandy to the gravel smooth peebled ones, as well as other places of interest.

The Philippines consists of 7,107 islands, of which only 2,000 are inhabited and this is what they called Paradise Philippines. Only about 500 of the islands are larger than a square kilometer and 2,500 of them are not even named. The total area of the Philippines is 299,404 square kilometers. The highest mountain is Mt. Apo, near Davao in Mindanao, at 2,953 metres.

There are over 30 volcanoes in the Philippines, 10 of which are classified as being active. The longest rivers are the Cagayan River, the Rio Grande de Pampanga and the Agno in Luzon; the Rio Grande de Mindanao and the Agusan River in Mindanao.

The Paradise islands of the Philippines can be conveniently divided into three groups. First, there is Luzon, the largest and northernmost island and the site of the capital, Manila. The nearby islands of Mindoro and Marinduque are generally included with Luzon. At the other end of the archipelago is the second largest island, Mindanao. Third, there is the tightly-packed island group known as the Visayas. There are seven major islands in this group - Panay, Negros, Cebu, Bohol, Leyte, Samar and Masbate. Cebu is the central island of the group and Cebu City is a major tourist destination.
